We know that there are kids (and adults) in every community who do not get enough to eat. Most students will eat lunch at school around 11 am or Noon then will go until 6 pm or later before eating dinner. Some not eating breakfast, and some even not guaranteed dinner. On the weekends it may be even worse. In hopes to combat hunger and serve the community we have launched Bay Six: Brown Bag Diner. This project allows for students (and adults) to stop in after school or work and grab a small FREE "brown bag" meal that can be chosen from our menu (pictured to the left). Each person can choose one item from each section to build their meal. The menu consists of 5 sections: a main choice , a salty snack, a sweet treat, a healthy side, and a drink. They can choose to eat it in our building, or take it home with them. We know that this may not be the most nutritious meal that they will eat (we do hope to be able to get healthier & fresher options as we grow the project) but we also know it is better than the nothing that most of these students usually get.
We are believing that Bay Six: Brown Bag Diner will make a huge impact in this community but only by people like YOU getting involved. It will be funded/ supplied solely by donations from people in community. Those people, who hope to see that every person has enough to eat each day despite differences in social status, race, or beliefs will be the main reason this project succeeds. Please consider getting involved by either donating food items (contact us for donation delivery/pick up options), or by making a monetary donation by clicking HERE.
CORONA VIRUS (COVID-19) RELIEF EFFORT:
Please stay tuned for more info as we develop our plan to serve more people in the community. In the meantime we have created a form for you to fill out if you or your children will need lunch daily. Fill out HERE . This will allow us to get an idea of how many meals we will need to prepare each day and work to get a menu together along with gathering volunteers to help facilitate the meals.
Thank you all in advance! We are not doing this out of fear or recognition but out of a desire to continue to fulfill our vision of meeting basic needs of people in our #commUNiTY and beyond. If you have a business, church, school, or another type of building and want to become a pick-up location for meals then please email us at email@example.com ... If you want to volunteer to make brown bag meals, please go up above and fill out the volunteer form/application. If you are an organization that is planning to, or already are, serving lunchtime meals for the youth in the community during this time, please let us know so that we can make sure to connect those in your area with you. We are all in this together!
Bay Six:Mingo is what we call a "Community Parlor" or a "neighborhood center". As a non- profit 501(c)3, Bay Six is created to be a hub for various community activities that focus on meeting basic, practical needs for people all ages. Our hope is through serving them well, that they will begin to understand their value and worth. Our heart is to help restore individuals and families via community interaction and programs/ projects.
Some things we also have available in our location that can be done daily include playing video games, playing board games, using our free Wi-Fi for homework or job searches, small groups, holding your club meetings, as well as hosting special events ranging from live concerts, community cook outs, and movie nights to art classes, or even your birthday party. In short, Bay Six:Mingo was created to be a positive place in the community with an atmosphere in which anyone and everyone can feel welcome to hang out while having their needs met.
